Viper’s Dream

by Jake Lamar

An Audio Drama in 10 épisodes (25’)

First aired on Radio France Culture in March 2019

directed by Laurence Courtois

Viper's Dream is a ten-episode audio crime drama, roughly 30 minutes per episode, set in the jazz world of Harlem between 1936 and 1961. The protagonist of the series is Clyde "The Viper" Morton, one of the most respected and feared black gangsters in America.

The story combines elements of the epic Godfather films and the Harlem detective novels of Chester Himes. But Viper's Dream (the title comes from a Django Reinhardt song) is a fast-paced aural thriller, filled with suspense, intrigue and plot twists and spiced with violence and humor. It is also steeped in music. The Viper's story is intertwined with the history of jazz over a quarter century.
